Sofija Novaković



Sofija Novaković is a Montenegrin artist, growing up in a family of painters, with both her mother and brother as sources of inspiration, she found her passion early on. Her art style is a blend of expressionism and abstract expressionism, influenced by the likes of Jean-Michel Basquiat. Her canvases are filled with diverse faces, representing various personalities, including self-portraits and those from her inner circle. Lately she started exploring and trying out bizarre and abstract collages blended with paint. Sofija's artistic journey began with her first solo exhibition in Montenegro in 2019 at the cultural space named Biro in Podgorica. She then participated in a group exhibition in Podgorica in 2020 as part of the Podgorica Art Festival. Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, her work was showcased in a virtual group exhibition in Berlin called ‘’Garden of Colorful Mists’’ in Haze Gallery. Sofija relocated to Lisbon at the end of 2021. In her first year here, she had a solo exhibition in a bar Ippolito Maciste. A year later, she participated in a group exhibition as a part of Mercado Amour project. Recently she held another solo exhibition in a bar and cultural space called La Sharada. Sofija Novakovic's art is a reflection of her emotions and the people in her life. Currently she is exploring other artistic directions, eager to try her hand at various forms, including working with wood, clay, wire and more.
